Your Professional Advantage
The reality of the working world is that many employers not only look for applicants and professionals who present with the skills, training and education to fit their job position but also those with a fit, natural, youthful-looking appearance. Many studies have been published that shows youthful and pleasant-appearing people have a professional advantage in the market place. It may seem unfair and a bit unjust but there is ample evidence that often this is the reality.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons Education Committee recently released key findings from a survey involving 647 “working women” aged 18 to 64 who were asked questions regarding their attitudes on whether cosmetic medical procedures can help give them a competitive edge at work, especially during the current economic slowdown.
According to the Opinion Research Corporation, there are approximately 115 million working-age women in the US.
Key findings from the survey revealed:
- 73% believe that appearance and youthful looks play a role in getting hired or being promoted
- 80% of respondents believe that a cosmetic medical procedure can boost a person’s confidence
- 13% said they would consider undergoing a cosmetic medical procedure specifically to make them feel more confident and more competitive in the job market
- 3% say they have already undergone a cosmetic procedure to increase their perceived value in the workplace.
